Does the style of slip lead matter?
Aktie
In short, yes...and no.
Your choice of slip lead whether, cotton, braid, climbing style rope, and any other wonderful material will have different longevity, comfort levels, and irritation. For example our soft cotton style slip leads are perfect for a more relaxed dog who isn't going to chew on it as soon as you look away, as the material is soft.
Any material has pro's and con's and when you're looking at specific ones its really best to do your research. Some synthetic ropes for example are not a good option for some long haired dogs as the hairs will get trapped within the fibres, and you may instead opt for a natural style rope which actually looks harder on the skin but is much better for the hair.
When it comes to stoppers there are a range of choices, we tend to keep things simple with a leather or rubber stopper. The rubber is great for really stopping the lead so you know your dog is secure, whereas the leather has great longevity, increased further by our new screw in rivets which mean you can make the stopper more or less tight. There are hundreds of other options though, including antlers, wood etc. The stopper is more of a choice for you, does it give the level of safety that you require, some even opt not to use a stopper at all so they really are a choice to compliment the style.
Hence why I say yes and no. It matters if it is something that is important to you or your dogs health, but a lot of the choices for slip leads are the style, craft work, where and who it comes from. Slip leads are a way of telling people your dog is trained or in training so you may want it as an accessory rather than anything else.
