How to correctly put a slip lead on your dog.

Why do people use slip leads?

Well firstly they are extremely versatile dog leads, allowing easy application and are a great training tool. Slip leads can help to improve your dogs responsiveness during walks as they naturally loosen as your dog stops pulling, and tightens during pulling. In effect it rewards good behaviour and reacts as a normal dog collar when pulling, making sure your dog is secure, safe, and under control.

Many working dogs will use slip leads because they can be a much more comfortable alternative to wearing a collar for long periods of the day.

Is a slip lead the right choice for me and my dog?

Making the choice to use a slip lead can be a confusing choice for many people, but they are an excellent choice for a wide range of dogs from gun dogs to German Shepherds. The worry is often that it will hurt your dog. This is not the case as the slip works in the same way as a normal collar by holding your dog back, as soon as the pulling stops so does the tension.

How to put on a slip lead.

1. Open up your lead so that it can comfortably fit over your dogs head.

2. The slip lead should wrap over the dog's neck with the ring pointing upwards, so keep this in mind when putting on your lead depending on which side you like to walk your dog.

3. Pull the stopper up enough close enough that the collar portion of the lead isn't long enough to come up over the dog's neck.

4. Happy Walking!
